Cool Director Series: Alexander Payne

The director Alexander Payne has long been known in the indie film world as a master of dark humor. His films are generally set in suburban America and feature a different kind of hero - a lonely, beaten down man struggling to create a better life. Let’s face it, humor comes from Payne. He’s done some fantastic films and has now made a (long overdue) foray into TV with the HBO series “Hung.” Payne is an executive producer on the show and directed the pilot as well. 1. The Daily Show with Jon Stewart - Sure this show is on all year but spend a few minutes and watch this clip. Please. The Daily Show has never been better - They are doing an amazing job covering topics like the controversy in Iran and as always, able to find humor in dark places.

Top 5 Sci-Fi Movies To See This Year

Why futuristic movies are THE GREATEST GENRE EVER…
1. We’re at a point in society where we realize that things well, might not be that great in the future. So it’s cool to explore and predict what the human race will have done right and the many things we’ll inevitably do wrong. It can be comforting to know what to expect and that there is still time to change our course.
2. It’s refreshing to see plotlines that don’t feel like they’ve been done a thousand times before or watered down by a team of highly paid studio writers. At least when 2 people meet-cute in a coffee shop, the barista’s a robot: “Will. That. Be. Tall. Or. Venti.”
3. The special effects, camera angels and costumes are can be amazing. I want to put on a silver jumpsuit and a red wig just writing this!
